Zambrero is a restaurant franchise with a fresh twist: its healthy Mexican food is sold in support of humanitarian causes in Africa, Asia and the Americas.

This year, Zambrero was recognised as an ABA100 Winner for Community Contribution in The Australian Business Awards 2014.

Armed with the bold mission statement, “To empower a social movement dedicated to the provision of food to those in need,” Zambrero is setting the bar for restaurant and retail groups as well as revolutionising standards for businesses everywhere.

Through its Plate 4 Plate initiative, a nutritious meal is donated to someone living in poverty every time a meal is purchased.

“We’d like to think that one day there will no longer be a need for Plate 4 Plate. That would be the day we knew no one was going hungry. Until that day comes, we’re here to help,” general manager Karim Messih said.

In September 2013, during Zambrero’s annual major fundraising initiative, 82,000 meals were provided to people in Nicaragua with the aid of Zambrero’s distribution partner, Stop Hunger Now.

Zambrero’s success is driven by a commitment to excellence – evident in its healthy, delicious food prepared with fresh ingredients – and its unique humanitarian focus is proudly echoed throughout the customer experience.
