Snowy Hydro Limited operates and maintains two gas-fired power stations located in Victoria (known as Snowy Mountains Scheme) and Red Energy, an electricity and gas retailer operating in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. Snowy Hydro is also mainland Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy producing around 60 per cent of all renewable energy available in Australia. Snowy Hydro has evolved to be a manager of market risk with the ability to generate energy at short notice to meet market needs at all times.

In 2014, Snowy Hydro Limited has been recognised as an ABA100 Winner for Community Contribution in The Australian Business Awards. The company’s relationship with the local communities is at the core of its long-established Community Partnerships Program, which contributes on average $750,000 in the form of both financial and in-line support to these communities.

The goal of the Community Partnerships Program is to promote health and safety, education, and respect for heritage, and provide support for cancer research, community festivals, events and projects.

Initiatives born from the program include the Snowy Hydro SouthCare Rescue Helicopter service which completes nearly two missions daily; the establishment of the Cooma Universities Centre providing university education opportunities for local students; Snowy Hydro Young Driver Training Program offers practical experience to L and P-plate drivers in year 12 at every stakeholder high school in the Snowy Mountains; sponsorship and in-kind support to the Adaminably Snowy Scheme Committee’s initiative to open the Snowy Scheme Museum; and financial support for Steven Walter Foundation for ongoing childhood cancer research and the Snowy Rides Family Weekend in the Mountains program, totalling $100,000 per annum.
