Sanitarium have recently developed a gluten-free version of their iconic product Weet-Bix. According to the company, the gluten-free version of Weet-Bix have the same look and taste of regular Weet-bix, the only difference being that this version is gluten-free.
The primary ingredient is Sorghum, which is a gluten free grain – making up 96% of the product. Once a recipe had been developed Sanitarium completed 68 pilot cook trials in their ‘Special Pilot Plant Facility’. These are completed at a small scale and allow changes and developments to be made to the cereal.
Over a six month period Sanitarium changed the role of a Perth-based Weet-Bix factory, turning it into a Weet-Bix manufacturing site. Gluten free Weet-bix are obviously gluten free, contain 3 times the antioxidants of oats, low in sugar, high in vitamins, source of dietary fibre and high in folate. The Weet-Bix Gluten free 375g product is now one of the bestselling Weet-Bix products, found in over 150,000 Australian homes just 6 short months after its initial release. This has led to Sanitarium being recognised as an ABA100 Winner for Product Innovation in The Australian Business Awards 2015.
