The city of Bankstown is home to just under 200,000 residents. Being just 20 minutes out from Sydney’s CBD the area gets the best of both worlds, from excellent commercial spaces, to parks and reserves. Bankstown City Council is responsible for a variety of duties to the residents in its jurisdiction, ranging from environmental protection, waste removal and disposal, to the approval of all building in the area, plus a range of other community duties. Its commitment to excellence has seen the Bankstown City Council recognised as an Employer of Choice in the Australian Business Awards 2015.

There are 800 employees on the council with backgrounds in HR, IT, town planning, engineering, construction, waste collectors and many more. Bankstown Council is a health minded work force, with employees involved in the 10,000 steps challenge, men and women’s health events and other occasions that allow employees to socialise whilst getting involved in sport activities. Staff members are awarded gift card vouchers when they complete service milestones to recognise their contribution to the council. Quarterly meetings are held with the entire workforce present, including management and operational staff who are all brought up to speed on what is happening in the organisation. The council also offers to pay between half and 100% of study fees for all staff once they have successfully completed their course under their Study Assistance Scheme.
